Jean was the perfect wife - even when her husband Glen is accused in the disappearance of a little girl, Bella, she stands by him disbelieving any circumstantial evidence of his interest in porn sites, especially those with children. Not finding a body, the case remains unresolved although D.I. Bob Sparkes thinks the widow knows more than she claims. When Glen falls into the path of a bus and is instantly killed, Sparkes sees the thin veneer begin to crack as Jean struggles to maintain her composure in front of prying reporters and flashing cameras now focused on her. Did Jean know what happened to little Bella? Was she involved somehow? A debut novel, Barton keeps the reader’s interest by using the “voices” of her characters throughout the short, fast-paced chapters. For fans of Girl on the Train, Gone Girl and similar novels.
