Laura, aka "Lo", Blacklock is a journalist writing for a travel magazine, who suddenly has the opportunity to spend a week on the luxury cruiser "Aurora" exploring the fjords of Norway and experiencing the northern lights. The night before departure she is traumatized by a burglar but decides to continue onto her assignment, which could be her big break. Rubbing elbows with the rich and powerful, she over-imbibes and is suddenly awakened by a noise in the cabin next door to hers, supposedly occupied by a young woman who had declined to join the merriment up on board. Lo stumbles out to the veranda and sees a smeared hand print on the glass of the door of Cabin 10, and a body disappearing beneath the cold, deep waters. She calls security, but when they investigate they find no evidence of any crime, saying there was never anyone in Cabin 10. The officer on board believes the stress of her break-in coupled by too many drinks make her an unreliable witness. But Lo is sure of what she saw, and that the killer is onboard. And the killer(s) know she is a witness. This cat-and-mouse thriller is reminiscent of Agatha Christie, with twists and turns at every chapter. Recommended for those who loved Gone Girl, Girl on a Train and similar titles.
