Smocked frocks from the collection of Janet Richardson and a selection of books on decorative sewing and needlework are currently on exhibit in the Library’s Glass Display Case, located on the main floor of the Library next to the fiction collection.

Kathryn Kulpa will teach a fiction writing series called Life/Stories: Writing from Personal Experience this spring at the Barrington Public Library.  The series will run on Thursday evenings at 7:30, June 5-26, 2008.  Registration for the course begins on Thursday morning May 29, in person or by phone at the Library’s Reference Desk (247-1920 x 2.) Elsa Grieder returns to the Library to host a play reading series on Tuesday mornings at 10:00, May 27-June 17.    Plays include The Good Doctor by Neil Simon, The Elephant Man by Bernard Pomerance, Coastal Disturbances by Tina Howe and The Perfect Party by A.R. Gurney.  Registration begins at 9:00 AM on Thursday, May 15, 2008, in person or by phone at the Library’s Reference Desk (247-1920 x 2). Group is limited to 10 participants.

Take a look at our exciting Sea Adventures book display newly up near the main entrance to the Library.  This display features both novels and true accounts of life at sea.  Annotated booklists are available to be picked up at the display.  Enjoy!

During the month of May color photography by Barrington resident Chuck Van Sluyter will be on display at the Barrington Public Library. The collection includes landscapes from Chuck’s travels around the United States, Italy and Ireland.  Nearly all of the images are printed from 35mm slides.  Chuck has been a serious amateur photographer for over 35 years. His career as a management consultant has required considerable travel that broadened the scope of his work.  His approach to photography...

The last weeks of April… the first weeks of May… A great time to garden!  But if the weather doesn’t cooperate, stay indoors and enjoy Rosemary and Thyme, a wonderful British import, featuring two savy women gardeners who solve mysteries as skillfully as other people prune peonies!  We’ve got the DVD… check it out!

April is “Lawn and Garden” Month. To celebrate, check out a book from our Garden Display, located in the New Magazine Section on the Library’s Main Floor.  April is also “National Humor Month”. What better time to pick up a book by national treasure Mark Twain (aka Samuel Clemens).  Many titles by this abundantly entertaining writer can be found in the collections of the Barrington Public Library. Peter and the Wolf is coming! This wonderful family event featuring the music of Prokofiev, played by the Classic Winds Woodwind Quintet is coming to the Library Sunday, May 18 at 2 PM.  What a perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

Thursdays at 10:00 am children ages 3-5 are welcome to join us for a half hour program of stories,songs and a short film. Designed as a first independent experience, children attend without their caregivers. No registration is necessary. Program continues until May 22.
