A New Chapter Upstairs: 2nd Floor Renovation Blog

November 14, 2016

And now at long last the construction has begun! We are very excited about hiring a contractor (ADS, from East Providence) to do the construction of the 2nd floor building project.

At this point, the Children’s Room is located in the Gallery Room, with some children’s programming happening in the Auditorium.  The staff from technical services, administration, and community services have all been relocated to different parts of the library.

Last week demolition started in earnest. Every room in phase I (Children’s Room, meeting rooms, Administrative and staff offices, staff break room) is now under demolition.  Phase II will include the Auditorium, Gallery, stage and backstage, Green Room, and Community Services office.

It is hard to say at this early stage how long construction will take, but we are hoping that Phase I will take between 4 to 5 months and Phase II approximately 2 months.

Our fundraising for the project has gone very well! We have raised nearly all the funding we need.  We are still offering naming opportunities for seats in the Auditorium and custom picture book bins in the children’s room.  One major naming opportunity remains: to name the Gallery Room. For more information about naming opportunities, visit our fundraising website www.barringtonlibraryfund.org or contact  me in the Director’s office at 401.247.1920 x305.
