The Reading Across Rhode Island title for 2008 is Sara Gruen’s Depression-era circus novel Water for Elephants.  Two mini-courses centered on the novel will be offered this spring at the Barrington Public Library.  Both series (co-led by Deborah Barchi and Lauri Burke) begin with a discussion of Water for Elephants, continue with a showing of Tod Browning’s still controversial 1932 circus movie, Freaks, and conclude with a discussion of Russell Baker’s classic memoir of the Great Depression, Growing Up.

Evening Series: Wednesdays at 7:30 PM, March 12, 19 and 26; registration begins on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 9:00 AM.  Morning Series: Fridays at 10:00 AM, April 11, 18 and 25; registration begins on Thursday, March 20 at 9:00 AM. Registrations taken in person or by phone at the Library’s Reference Desk (247-1920 x 2).
