C.J. Cherryh writes rich and intriguing anthropological science fiction.  Some of the best of her work can be enjoyed in the nine books she sets in her “Foreigner Universe”.  These brilliant novels explore and celebrate the dangerous coming together of two very different species.  In many ways Cherryh’s three Foreigner trilogies represent one grand bildungsroman; a unified saga in which the main character, translator and cultural mediator Bren Cameron, as well as two separate societies, Atevi and human, come of age together.  As the series goes on these two types of beings are joined by a third, with intimations of more to come.   Cherryh’s own strong background in myth, culture and language give these books tremendous depth and interest.  I invite you to plunge into a unique and exciting reading experience.  The Foreigner novels in order are: Foreigner, Invader, Inheritor, Precursor, Defender, Explorer, Destroyer, Pretender and Deliverer. They are all available at the Barrington Public Library
