Mickey is a patrol cop in a Philadelphia neighborhood rocked by the opioid crisis. Her usual run-ins consist of drug dealers and sex workers. Also on the streets she patrols is her younger sister, Kacey, whose addiction to drugs tore the sisters apart years ago. They no longer speak but keep tabs on each other as their paths repeatedly cross. But when Kacey goes missing, at the same time a dangerous serial killer is on the loose, Mickey can’t help but get involved and becomes obsessed with finding the killer and her sister. With the help of her old partner, she turns up new clues and tracks down new leads. But as she gets closer to solving the case, her safety and that of her family is threatened and Mickey needs to decide what is more important - protecting the life she has built or solving the crime and finding out what happened to her sister.

Long Bright River is both a gripping police thriller and a moving story of two sisters, torn apart by poverty and the opioid crisis. ~ Reviewed by Siobhan Egan, Barrington Public Library staff
