RARI 2018: Book Discussion of The Hate U Give

This year's Reading Across Rhode Island (RARI) selection is The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. The selection deals with themes of identity, race relations, police shootings/violence, gang life, Tupac and hip-hop/rap music, and family. Find more about RARI here.

The Hate U Give is a brave, thought-provoking, conversation-enabling novel about what prejudice looks like in the 21st century. Sixteen-year-old Starr lives in two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she was born and raised and her private high school in the suburbs. The uneasy balance between them is shattered when Starr is the only witness to the fatal shooting of her unarmed best friend.

Please register for one of the two book discussions: Thursday, April 5 at 10 am or Monday, April 9 at 7 pm.

Copies of The Hate U Give are available through the public catalog in hardcover, audiobook, eBook, and eAudiobook here. Please note: we cannot guarantee available copies of The Hate U Give.

THIS REGISTRATION IS FOR MONDAY, APRIL 9 AT 7 PM.
