Flash Fiction Writing Workshop

Beginner through advanced writers are welcome to join the library's 6-week Flash Fiction Writing Workshop.

This workshop will explore forms of flash fiction, testing the boundaries of this form, generating new work, and revising stories until they achieve the paradox that is the heart of good flash fiction: a feeling of completeness in brevity. Flash fiction uses some of the techniques of poetry and editors generally define flash fiction as short stories under 1000 words.

The workshop is led by Kathryn Kulpa, a fiction writer and editor. She was a winner of the Vella Chapbook Contest for her flash fiction chapbook Girls on Film, published by Paper Nautilus Press, and she received the Mid-List Press First Series Award for her short story collection Pleasant Drugs (Mid-List Press). She is also the author of Who’s the Skirt?, a micro-chapbook published by the Origami Poems Project, and has been featured in several anthologies. Kathryn has published short fiction in Bellevue Literary Review, Cleaver, decomP, Florida Review, Hayden’s Ferry Review, Literary Orphans, Monkeybicycle, NANO Fiction, Smokelong Quarterly, Superstition Review, and many other journals. She is a flash fiction editor at Cleaver and formerly served as an editor of Newport ReviewPif and Merlyn’s Pen, a journal of writing by teens.

The workshop is free and is limited to 15 adult participants. Register using the form below.
