Virtual Reality at Barrington Public Library (VR@BPL) debuts Saturday Dec 29, 2018 with an all-day event featuring a range of VR experiences.
- The room-scale Oculus Rift allows the user to become completely immersed; physical movements through the real world are seamlessly mirrored in the virtual world.
- The stationary Oculus Go allows users to explore the new world of virtual reality at a pace that fits their individual comfort level.
Multiple VR experiences are installed and immediately available on both platforms, with thousands of free apps available for instant download.
Active participation experiences include a walk on the ocean bottom, where you can reach out and touch sea anemones and jellyfish. Skim the tips of mountains by flying in a wingsuit. Recall malfunctioning robots by any means necessary. Ride an elevator 80 stories up and test yourself by walking the plank. Paint, create, and design in 3 dimensions with the award-winning Tilt Brush. Mix Fruit Ninja and Dance Dance Revolution in a wildly popular and unique VR rhythm game.
Passive experiences include world travel opportunities to stunning landscapes and remote wonders. Emmy-winning VR short films from Boabab Studios and Disney Pixar! User generated VR and 360 videos on YouTube VR, Oculus TV, Facebook 360, and more. Isolate yourself in peaceful serenity with guided meditation experiences in exotic locations.
Social experiences are possible within Oculus Rooms. Invite friends to join your party. Create a virtual avatar that represents your unique personality. Play classic board games, watch movies, and share experiences and applications between party participants. The possibilities are endless and always new!
Free and open to all. Parent/Guardian required for those 12 years old and under.
