Veterans Writing Group

Every veteran has a story. Barrington Public Library is starting a pilot program for veterans to write down and share their experiences within a safe, supportive environment so their stories and experiences will never be forgotten.

Participants will meet on a biweekly basis starting March 25 through June 17 from 6:30 to 8 pm. This group is open to all veterans, whether you are a beginning writer or have writing experience. We will start off with the basics of writing led by local writer and librarian, Kathryn Kulpa, progressing to writing prompts in the form of written passages, photos and other materials. Veterans may share their work or they may choose to keep their writing private.

Kathryn Kulpa was a winner of the Vella Chapbook Contest for her flash chapbook Girls on Film (Paper Nautilus) and received the First Series Award in Short Fiction for her story collection Pleasant Drugs (Mid-List Press).  Her work has appeared in Jellyfish Review, Monkeybicycle, Smokelong Quarterly, and Evansville Review, and she serves as flash fiction editor for Cleaver magazine. Kathryn leads writing workshops in public libraries throughout Rhode Island and has been a visiting writer at Wheaton College. She was born in a small state, and she writes short stories.

Attendance in this group is free and is limited to those who served in one of the branches of the military and registration is required. Signups with be available through the library website or the Reference Department. All materials for this program will be provided.
