In July of 1945, the USS Indianapolis was assigned the duty of bringing the atomic bomb to an island air base for use against Japan. Having completed her mission, the Indianapolis was en route to the Phillippines when she was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine. Over 900 men abandoned ship and due to an incredible series of blunders by the Navy, she would not be noticed as missing for four days.
Naval historian Robert Begin will share this story of the loss of the USS Indianapolis and the naval service men who sacrificed their lives.
