Virtual Film Chat with Doug: Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times

Join librarian Doug Swiszcz on Zoom at 1 pm on Wed, April 1 for a virtual film chat about Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times (1936, 87 minutes, in black and white). The film looks at the dehumanizing impact of machines on our society and is available to stream via the library's subscription to Kanopy.

This film was the last of Chaplin's silent films and also the last to feature his Little Tramp persona. It is the movie that led the House Committee on Un-American Activities to brand him as a communist sympathizer.

We encourage you to watch the film prior to the chat. Doug will share some of his vast movie knowledge with us and then open the space up for discussion.

HOW DO I VIEW THE FILM?
It is available to stream via the library's subscription to Kanopy. Visit our website to learn how to access this service. Please note it is available to Barrington cardholders, however if you don't have a Barrington library card check with your library to see if they offer Kanopy--many do!
