Film Lecture: The Innocents

The Innocents

1961 – 100 minutes – Black & white – Not rated

A repressed woman (Deborah Kerr) is hired as governess to two orphans. She becomes convinced that the ghosts of the former governess and her brutish lover are trying to possess the children. Do these spirits really exist, or are they the hysterical imaginings of the governess? This film is an adaptation of Henry James’ The Turn of the Screw

Part of Librarian Doug Swiszcz's film lecture series, From Beyond the Grave, with pre-film commentary by Doug and a short discussion to follow.
