Music Hath Charms...

Mon, 03/15/2010 - 8:33pm -- JDavanza

Drop by and enjoy our Music Book Display, currently up on the main floor of the Library.  You’ll find memoirs and biographies of musicians, nonfiction titles on your favorite styles of music, and a variety of novels with a musical theme.

As William Congreve famously wrote: “Musick has Charms to sooth a savage Breast”.  Perhaps true enough, unless of course that savagery erupts in a musical mystery novel, then, all bets are off…

A few of the musical mysteries featured in our current display include:

Batya Gur - Murder Duet: A Musical Case.  Israeli policeman and lover of classical music Michael Ohayon attempts to track down the murderer of two musicians, the brother and father of one of his friends.  The only clue?  A sheet of music.

Cynthia Harrod-Eagles - Orchestrated Death.  Inspector Bill Slider struggles to find clues and a motive to the murder of a quiet violinist, while his home life runs amuck.

Rupert Holmes - Swing: A Mystery.  Jazz musician Ray Sherwood, playing at the 1940 World Fair, becomes involved in an investigation into the death of a mysterious Frenchwoman.

Sara Hoskinson - Murder in C Major.  Returning to her hometown after 30 years, Joan Spencer auditions for the local orchestra, but, when the first oboist is murdered, Joan is determined to help Detective Fred Lundquist solve the case.

Kate Ross - The Devil in Music.  Regency dandy and amateur sleuth Julian Kestrel is traveling on the continent when he finds himself caught up in a murder mystery involving a dead opera singer and a seemingly endless list of potential suspects.

Enjoy!
