Full Harvest Moonrise at Sowams Woods

The Barrington Land Conservation Trust, the Barrington Public Library and the Barrington Recreation Department invite you to a guided evening walk at Sowams Woods as part of Rhode Island Land Trust Days and the Barrington 300th anniversary.

Enjoy the beauty of a sunset through the woods and a harvest moon rising over the treeline, reflecting into Echo Lake. With a sunset about 6:21 pm and moonrise about 6:08 pm, if the evening is clear, there should be plenty of opportunities for photographs. 

Instagram Photo Contest: 24-Hours in Barrington

Barrington 300 and Barrington Public Library offer a challenge to residents to participate in a Instagram Photo Contest on the theme of 24-hours in Barrington, “Morning, Noon, and Night” on Saturday, August 26. Share your town pride and photography skills with your neighbors and the world.

Anyone can participant by using the assigned hash tag during the 24-hour period, but only those who register and provide their Instagram handle will be eligible to win. Winners will be published n in the Barrington Times this September.

Farm Fresh with Patricia Roth

See, touch and smell a variety of seasonal produce from local Rhode Island farms.  In this hands-on chef-led program, kids will learn about the healthy, economic and environmental benefits of supporting and eating farm fresh foods. Engaging all of their senses, participants will help the chef prepare a delicious snack that features RI grown food.   Limit 20 participants. Ages 5+ Registration begins Monday, July 31.

Fiddle 'N Fun with Joel Beauchemin

Fiddle N' Fun is a musical hands-on learning experience with singing, movement, instruments, and more!  Kids will learn about Suzuki-style activities using simple one-stringed instruments. These Fiddlestix are incredibly fun, durable, and have been proven to prepare young listeners for learning the violin.  Limit 20 participants. Ages PreK-7 years.  Registration begins Monday, June 19.

Building Blocks of Comic Creation with Eric Fulford--FULL!

Help design a silly, zany comic strip. Kids will learn about the different ingredients that make up a comic or cartoon, and how those pieces come together! This program will address ideas like simple illustration techniques, communicating through art, and using sequential images to tell a story that is easy to understand. Ages PreK-9 years.  FULL- please ask about including your name on the waiting list.

Animal World Experience with Matthew Gabriel

Learn about lizard lounges, millipede mansions, and a variety of different shelters animals build and use. During this exciting program, kids will discover the many ways in which habitats are similar to and different than their own homes. Kids also will gain a new respect for nature when they realize how hard animals work on these basic shelters, just so they can survive in the wild.  Registraton is not required to attend.  Free for all communities.

Dancing Threads with Karen Katin is FULL!

An introduction to hand sewing and basic embroidery stitches. Kids will design their own piece of art using a light box, pens, embroidery hoop and thread.  They will go home with a finished product and supplies to create more on their own. Limit 12 participants. Registration begins Monday, June 26.  Ages 5+.
